The current favorite walking trail for both visitors and residents alike (which is handicapped-accessible) is located on the property of the state-owned Newbold-White House Historic & Natural site, two miles southeast of the Town of Hertford. Bounded on the east by the Perquimans River, the trail is a .5 mile loop beginning in the parking lot of the Newbold-White House and proceeding east to a wooden boardwalk and boat dock overlooking a beautiful woodland and river marsh on the banks of the Perquimans. After you´ve walked the trail, you can visit the Newbold-White House. Built in 1730, it is the oldest house in the state that is open to the public on a regular basis. Coming soon....the Perquimans County Blueways/Greenways initiative is planning a walking trail which will begin in downtown Hertford and continue parallel to Harvey Point Road south to the Perquimans County Commerce Center, approximately 1.2 miles.
