It´s easy to combine love of nature and history when you visit Perquimans County. Almost all of the county´s historic attractions are within an easy walk of canoe/kayak landings and can be incorporated into paddling trips. Start by visiting the trio of historic towns, Winfall, Belvidere, and Hertford. While you´re in Hertford, check out the Perquimans County Courthouse, a beautiful old federal-style building, still being used for the purposes originally intended. Just a couple miles away (walking or paddling!), there´s the Newbold-White House, the oldest brick house in North Carolina that is open to the public (March until Thanksgiving).
