Mill Creek Paddle Trail. Put in at Larry´s Drive-In on US 17 Business, 0.4 miles northeast of the Town of Hertford (Location N36° 11´ 58" & W76° 27´ 46"). This trail begins with a short paddle out on an old canal to the Perquimans River by shores lined with cypress trees laden with Spanish moss. Species to look for include: flycatchers, vireos, warblers, barred owls and red-shouldered hawks and other raptors, as well as great crested flycatchers, prothonotary warblers, and a wide variety of wading birds.
- Upper Perquimans River Paddle Trail. Put in at NC37 Perquimans River bridge near
Belvidere NC (Location N36° 16´ 06" / W76° 32´ 42"). This trail is an easy paddle on the narrow, gently flowing Perquimans River. The portion of the trail north of the bridge provides the best habitat for birding. Regular sightings include: great crested flycatchers, prothonotary warblers, red-shouldered hawks and other raptors, and a wide variety of vireos and wading birds.
